Objective

The  Board of Appeals serves as the code appeals board, relocation appeals board, and hazardous materials advisory commission. The Board's scope of duties includes:

  • Hear appeals by the Fire Chief and/or Building Official regarding the suitability of alternative materials and methods of construction
  • Provide interpretation pertaining to uniform codes and city ordinances
  • Hear appeals from determinations by the relocation director
  • Review activities of the Fire Department's Hazardous Materials Program

A member of the Board of Appeals may be appointed to serve as a member of the Disaster Council.

Schedule

The Board meets on an as-needed basis and once a year for a staff briefing on the Hazardous Materials Program.

  • Fill out a Request to Speak card (located at the entrance to the Council Chambers) and give it to the City Clerk
  • Provide your comment in advance via email

Comments received by 4:00 p.m. the day of the Board of Appeals meeting will be provided to the full Board and staff prior to the meeting. These comments will not be read aloud during the meeting.

The West Sacramento Board of Appeals consists of 5 members and 1 alternate member appointed by the Mayor, with the approval of the City Council.
